IMA combines a 1.3-litre i-VTEC petrol engine with a lightweight, high-output electric motor that assists the engine during acceleration and at higher speeds. Then, when you're braking, decelerating or going downhill, it recharges its own batteries.

Red light? AUTO STOP. When you bring the Civic Hybrid to a complete stop, its ingenious AUTO STOP feature automatically turns off the petrol engine to minimise fuel consumption and emissions. Super thin electric motor. The Civic Hybrid’s powerful electric motor is less than 7cm wide. Its battery pack, located behind the rear seat, is also compact, leaving plenty of room in the boot.

Ultra Low Emissions. In the United States, the Civic Hybrid is officially classed as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV). It far exceeds current Australian emissions standards.

Peak transmission efficiency. The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) constantly adjusts to the most efficient drive ratio, providing better fuel economy and acceleration compared with more traditional transmissions.

8-year battery warranty. Honda provides an 8-year warranty† on the Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery module. It's really just for reassurance. Hopefully, you'll never need to use it.

It protects its driver, passengers, pedestrians and other vehicles too. Honda innovations like G-Force Control technology provide outstanding structural safety. These combined with multiple airbags, front seat pretensioners and anti-whiplash active headrests, deliver optimum occupant protection in the event of a collision.

Stability protection with traction control. Honda's Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system monitors individual wheel speed, steering angle and lateral G-force. If it detects oversteering, understeering or traction loss, it can brake individual wheels and/or reduce engine speed to help keep you in constant control.

6 airbags. Front, rear and curtain. Not only does the Civic Hybrid provide the protection of front, side and curtain airbags, its front airbags provide extra protection to passenger and driver. Honda's sophisticated dual-stage, dual-threshold system optimises the airbag deployment to match the speed and severity of a crash. It also helps to minimise injuries that can sometimes be caused by airbags themselves.

Side-impact door beams. In the unlikely event of a side impact, a highly rigid beam in each door is strategically positioned to resist intrusion into the passenger compartment, helping to ensure the highest levels of driver and occupant protection.

Anti-Lock Braking. Along with an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), the Civic Hybrid features Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, which distributes braking force to each wheel based on the passenger load.

Theft immobiliser. When the security alarm is activated, the immobiliser provides a powerful theft deterrent by shutting down the engine's fuel injection and ignition. Only a matching digital code in the ignition key can override it.
